Concrete Admixtures

Concrete is arguably the most important building material in the world today. In 2008 over 1,000,000,000 tons were poured in the U.S. alone. At the same time, the concrete industry faces significant pressures for its contribution to greenhouse gasses and is aggressively seeking ways to lessen its environmental footprint.

Increasingly, the properties of concrete are being enhanced through chemical additives, adding strength, increasing flowability, and managing set time.

The properties of glucarate and related chemicals are known to contribute to water reduction and set delay for concrete.

The properties of glucarate and related chemicals are known to contribute to water reduction and set delay for concrete. (In fact, gluconate, a renewable chemical in the same family as glucarate, is already widely used.) However, glucarate production has previously been too small and expensive to economically compete with other formulations. Rivertop's technology changes this.

Independent, third-party testing confirms that Rivertop admixtures meet ASTM 494 standards for water reducers and set retarders. Rivertop aims to collaborate with industry partners to formulate glucarate-based water reducers, plasticizers, set retarders and corrosion inhibitors.

Rivertop’s safe, renewable admixture ingredients outperform other renewable chemical additives and can improve the environmental profile of the concrete industry.

Type A (water reducing)

Rivertop’s water-reducing admixture ingredients permit concrete to achieve workability – slump and spread – at a lower water content, improving the quality of concrete and achieving higher strength. Type A enhances the properties of concrete using marginal- or low-quality aggregates and helps in pouring concrete under challenging conditions.

Type B (set retarding)

Rivertop’s retarding admixture ingredients delay the hydration of cement without affecting the long-term physical performance characteristics. Our Type B ingredients can be used to manage the effect of high temperatures, or accommodate delays between mixing and pouring.

Type D (water reducing and set retarding)

Rivertop’s water reducing and retarding admixture reduces the quantity of mixing water required to produce concrete of a given consistency, while retarding the setting of concrete.
