Road De-Icing

Increasing demand for protection of both roadway infrastructure and the environment calls for increased use of corrosion inhibitors in road salts and liquid de-icing agents. The experience of many state departments of transportation demonstrate that chemical de-icing & anti-icing programs result in better surface conditions, reduced frequency & severity of collisions, significantly enhanced freight mobility and reduced cost.

Corrosion inhibitors in salt brines, other liquid de-icers and dry road salts are a relatively new application, driven by increasing concerns about corrosive damage to vehicles and infrastructure, particularly bridgework. At the same time, the public continues to demand environmentally benign bioproducts as phosphate-based products pollute water and fisheries adjacent to roads or fed by urban storm sewers.

The corrosion inhibiting properties of Rivertop’s road surface solutions benefit transportation infrastructure and susceptible metals on vehicles that are exposed to the harsh effects of water and chloride solutions. Protecting vehicle wheel rims from corrosion helps maintain tire seals and fuel economy.

Salt Brines

Rivertop has developed a high quality corrosion inhibitor, counteracting the damaging effects of salt brines used on roads. The Pacific Northwest Snowfighters Association, a consortium of five state Departments of Transportation, is completing a certification process, and the product has tested very well in comparison to other currently approved materials.

An independent testing laboratory performed the Snowfighters’ standard test on Rivertop’s solution and found its performance to be identical to those observed in Rivertop’s own labs. These tests demonstrated that Rivertop’s solution inhibits the corrosiveness of sodium chloride by 70+ percent.

Rivertop’s corrosion inhibitors will be sold in concentrated liquid form, and can be added to brines on-site.

Liquid De-Icers

As the use of road salt has evolved, liquid de-icers – like magnesium chloride and calcium chloride solutions – have become increasingly common.

Rivertop has developed a high-quality corrosion inhibitor additive for liquid de-icers that is both highly effective and cost-efficient. Derived from renewable sources, with fully biodegradable properties, Rivertop enables roadway managers to maintain their limited budgets and still realize their public safety, transportation infrastructure and environmental responsibilities.

Road Salt

Rivertop has developed a high quality corrosion inhibitor for dry salts commonly used for de-icing roads.

The use of road salt, primarily sodium chloride, has increased significantly over the past 50 years. Made from renewable, safe, biodegradable chemicals, Rivertop’s corrosion inhibiting solution can be used with dry road salt, offering a cost-effective, environmentally sensitive corrosion inhibitor.

This high-quality corrosion inhibitor may also be applied to salts commonly used in smaller applications, including sidewalks and driveways. Consumers have become increasingly conscious of the environment. As consumers seek to extend the useful life of their vehicles, they also want to reduce the concentration of chemicals in adjacent lawns and vegetable gardens. Rivertop’s corrosion inhibitors made from renewable, safe, biodegradable chemicals, provide an excellent solution.
